Who’s Normal Anyway?

7 Years Old Already

Today was M’s 7th birthday. He was so excited he woke up at 5.30am! We managed to delay getting out of bed as long as 10 past 7, but by then it was going to be less hassle to get up. We all came downstairs and M tried out his new bike for size. It’s huge, with a 24″ frame, but he can fit on it with the seat right down and if we’d bought anything smaller he’d have outgrown it in a year or so.

M was eager to open his cards and see if anyone had sent him birthday money. He bought Star Wars: The Video Game when we saw it in Sainsburys a few weeks ago, but he didn’t have enough pocket money saved to pay us for it so it went in the cupboard until he had enough funds. Great Grandma had sent him a cheque, so after breakfast he put the game on and played it for ages. It’s pretty good with alot to it - I might play as the 2nd player with him tomorrow.

After church we came home and had bacon sandwiches, and Grandma and Grandad arrived. We started to play Star Wars top trumps (birthday gift) until I started winning a few cards back, and then M decided he didn’t want to play anymore. A little bit later on T & D arrived with C, D and B. C & D had come as Darth Vader. (M is very into Star Wars and was going to dress up too, but then decided he was going incognito as a spy and stayed in his normal clothes!) C, D and M played while the rest of us had tea and chatted. It was lovely to see them, especially because we weren’t having a birthday party as such (we’re going to Legoland as a birthday treat next weekend), and it meant M had friends to play with on his birthday. He said tonight it was the best birthday he’s ever had. (He was getting quite tired and emotional by bedtime!)

M wanted to have a spy / Star Wars themed birthday, so I’d made up a spy based treasure hunt with clues around the garden, and chocolates and spy masks as treasure. M’s other Grandma and Auntie arrived as they were hunting, so they got chance to have a sit down and a drink before M jumped on them.

We had a buffet tea and then sang happy birthday and did the birthday cake thing. The cake is half spy, half Darth Vader.

After tea, M, C & D did another game that Mum had made up for them on a spy theme, and then it was time for everyone to drive back home. A lovely day , all in all!
