Lots of Stories

We’ve been getting back into the home ed this week. Merry’s come up with a Charlotte Mason type home ed plan that we’re joining in with while it’s working for us. I like a lot of CM ideas I’ve heard of, enjoyed reading Pocketful of Pinecones and I think M gets loads out of reading some decent stories and doing some related activities (this is the basis of Five in a Row that we’ve used in the past). On Monday we started by reading Gogmagog and the Exiles of Troy from Knights, Kings and Conquerors by Geraldine McCaughrean. M narrated it back to me and illustrated the story. For maths he did some 2 times table sums from a book my mum gave us and could still remember about carrying between columns so that went OK. He wrote a thank you letter and played on Neopets, before we went out to his swimming lesson.

Yesterday we read the Sing Song of Old Man Kangaroo from Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories. There were lots of new words to both of us, so we looked them up in the dictionary and here and M made a poster with photos printed off the net. He did some more maths too. In the afternoon he spent ages building his Brio train tracks and playing with the digital camera. A came home in the evening and we’d all missed him loads so it was a relief for him to be back.

Today has been busy. I suggested M make a scrapbook of our life here, before we move. First thing after breakfast he got the camera and took photos of our Christmas decorations before we took them down. We read Strong Magic from Stories From Around The World, about how koalas came to exist. M narrated it back and we tried some dot art illustrations. He did maths again and some more Neopets. This afternoon we’ve done more crafty things. He got a bug creating kit for Christmas and started a ladybird. He also got a racing car kit to make out of plaster of Paris, so we cast that and then he began painting it. I was talked into helping him set up a Neopets Guild afterwards and he spent a while designing a logo to upload.

Oops, almost forgot photos:

Right, must get to bed, but I wanted to post this and it was part written and waiting for A to finish on his laptop so I could have the internet line! I’m also part way through writing my 7s after Jan tagged me, but uninspired on things to do before I die so that’ll have to wait for another evening.
